Optimal worker assignment for production systems

Abstract An ODE-based model for production networks is described. It comprehends breakdown rates of machines which affect the production capacity. The objective is to distribute repair crews in a way that maximal output is obtained. The structure of the model allows for linearization, such that a linear mixed integer optimization problem can be derived. Furthermore, the possibility to let repair workers change position during the production process can be included. The influence of worker distribution changes on the outflow as well as studies on steady state solutions and their benefit for the dynamic model are presented.
