On the Structure of the Spectrum of Alternate Direction Implicit Iteration Operators

Abstract We derive conditions for the ADI splitting of a conservative ordinary differential system to yield specific pairings of the eigenvalues of the iteration operator. The result is used to prove the dispersion relation of an ADI splitting for Maxwell's curl equations introduced in [1,2].
