Exploring Logistic Maps with CHEBFUN

Abstract CHEBFUN is a collection of algorithms, and a software system in object-oriented MATLAB, which extends familiar powerful methods of numerical computation involving numbers to continuous or piecewise-continuous functions functions of a real variable. The mathematical basis of the system combines tools of Chebyshev expansions, fast Fourier transform, barycentric interpolation, recursive zerofinding, spectral methods and automatic differentiation. Some of the algorithms used in the system will be presented, including automatic edge detection and function representation on unbounded domains. As an example of nontrivial edge detection, we explore jump detection in logistic map functions.
