Evolution of MATLAB

Abstract We show how MATLAB has evolved over the last 25 years from a simple matrix calculator to a powerful technical computing environment. We demonstrate several examples of MATLAB applications. We conclude with a few comments about future developments, including Parallel MATLAB.

Cleve Moler is the original author of MATLAB and one of the founders of the MathWorks. He is currently chairman and chief scientist of the company, as well as a member of the National Academy of Engineering and president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
