A Finite Element Method for the Capillary Equation

Abstract In the case of a circular tube conforming elements defined over annular subdomains are used. These elements are approximate solutions of the capillary equation over an annulus. For general domains lower or upper hemispheres defined over triangles are used as nonconforming finite elements. These elements provide an appropriate approximation of the capillary equation which says that the mean Gauss curvature is proportional to the height of the surface over the base domain.
