Orthogonal Wavelet Bases with Integer Dilation Factor a=2,3,..

Abstract An extension of multiresolution analysis theory to integer dilation factors other than 2 is discussed. A constructive existence proof for the wavelets is given. Example images are shown where the the use of dilation factors different from 2 leads to better representations at low resolutions. (oral exam)
